Unlocking Regional Ingredients for a Sustainable Aquafeed Industry
The growth of East Africa’s aquaculture sector depends on access to high-quality, affordable fish feed. However, the industry remains heavily reliant on imported ingredients, making feed production costly and limiting local value addition.
This study explores how increased use of regional ingredients—such as alternative protein and oil sources—can drive down costs, improve supply chain resilience, and create new market opportunities. By fostering innovation and investment in locally sourced feed production, East Africa can build a more sustainable, competitive, and self-sufficient aquaculture industry.
